Album Cover art project
Journey trough realities
Above you can see the final result, but now let's look at the process:
Brief: I wanted to create a cover for a Spotify playlist, containing spacey house music. I wanted to try a new design trend: the bento box design grid.
Picture of my suminagashi painting
A couple months ago I went to a Suminagashi workshop, and I wanted to include this piece of phisical art into my design, so I scanned it.
Suminagashi (墨 流 し) or "floating ink" is the process of marbling plain paper with water and ink to transform it into something vibrant and colorful.

Next I set up my bento box grid, and also started looking for inspiration from other designers. I designed my individual elements and started playing around with the placements, fonts, sizes and colors.
Here you can see a snippet from my inpsirations. If you look closely, cou can find some elements that made it into the final design.
Iteration of my design
I went to multiple iterations of textures and placements, but once something looked right, I tried to lock it in. The temptation to constantly change everything was very big, so I forced myslef to make decisions. In the end I decided to invert the colors of the image, as it looked more visually stimulating.
